Drugs and gun found in car after man stopped for reckless driving
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Texas – A man was arrested on numerous charges after deputies found drugs and a gun in his car during a traffic stop Sunday.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office officials said a deputy was dispatched to Interstate 10 in reference to a reckless driver.
The deputy said once she located the vehicle, which was speeding and tailgating other vehicles, she conducted a traffic stop at mile marker 845.
During the stop, deputies said the man, Joshua Abshire, was extremely nervous and refused to consent to a search of the vehicle.
The sheriff’s office said a Department of Public Safety trooper arrived with a K-9 dog and did an open air search, to which the K-9 gave a positive alert.
Deputies said they were able to search the vehicle based on probable cause and found 107 bottles of testosterone, 303 grams of Xanax and a pistol.
Abshire was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of unlawfully carrying a weapon. He was taken to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.
